EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a research-backed therapy that can be used for trauma, anxiety, and other challenges impacting your life. Curious how it can help?

When we go through painful or overwhelming experiences, our brains don’t always process those memories the way they do everyday events. Instead, trauma can get “stuck” and show up as flashbacks, intense emotions, negative beliefs about yourself, or physical reactions long after the event is over. This can leave you feeling on edge, disconnected, or trapped in the past.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a research-backed therapy that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories in a healthier way. By using gentle bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, sounds, or tapping), EMDR helps you access and reframe difficult memories so they no longer feel as overwhelming

What EMDR looks like in therapy

EMDR doesn’t mean re-living trauma in detail. Instead, it’s a structured, step-by-step process where you remain in control and supported throughout. Many clients find that EMDR allows them to move through painful memories faster and more effectively than traditional talk therapy alone.

At Bright Connections Counseling, I combine EMDR with a trauma-informed, compassionate approach. My goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where healing feels possible — where your story is honored, and where you can begin to feel lighter, more grounded, and more at peace with yourself.

How EMDR Helps

Reduces distress tied to past traumatic events.

Helps replace negative beliefs (“I’m not safe,” “I’m not good enough”) with more balanced, compassionate ones.

Decreases symptoms of anxiety, panic, and hypervigilance.

Promotes a greater sense of calm, resilience, and self-trust.
